Hide-and-Seek
Yesterday I went out with the binoculars and this little woodpecker and I played a game of hide and seek. He was so amusing, peeking around the palm tree trunk first from one side then the other to be sure where I was so he could move.
This morning I heard his "Tat-tat-tat-tat-tat" and there he was again, having breakfast. I grabbed the camera and this time he was too busy to play, or rather, to care if I was there or not.

I have a love of woodpeckers. At my feeder, I have a Red-Bellied Woodpecker, and a pair of Downey woodpeckers who visit for meals. The woodpecker you photographed looks like a Downey or a Hairy Woodpecker. I suspect a Downey.
I also love owls. I have only seen a Great Horned a few times, but have seen lots of barn owls. I wish I could take better pictures because I have seen Screech Owls, Barred Owls, and even the controversial Northern Spotted Owl.
Altogether, I have cataloged over one hundred bird species that I have seen across the United States, and I am not that dedicated at cataloging. Mostly I just love watching them. They are truly God's gifts. I hope they bring you as much joy as they bring to me.
